HL Deb 04 December 1958 vol 212 cc1228-30WA
LORD GLYN

asked Her Majesty's Government whether a statement can now be made regarding the present position of negotiations concerning Buraimi and whether any decision is likely to be reached shortly regarding the renewal of diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE MARQUESS OF LANSDOWNE)

There are no negotiations at present going on about the Buraimi dispute. As stated by my right honourable and learned friend in another place on April 23, Her Majesty's Government believe that problems like this would be much better handled if we could restore diplomatic relations which, as the House knows, were broken off by the Saudi Arabian Government in November, 1956. Her Majesty's Government have been in communication with the Saudi Arabian Government for some time with this end in view, but so far without result.

House adjourned at twenty-three minutes past seven o'clock.
