HC Deb 04 December 1958 vol 596 c167W
79. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Education the number of schools where teachers have responsibility for ordering foodstuffs in connection with the school meals service.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

I have no precise information, but I understand that this practice is now uncommon. I should like to see it ended at all schools.

81. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Education the number of schools in England and Wales, respectively, that provide a school meals service without any separate dining room facilities; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

I regret that this information is not available; but, as it is clearly uneconomic to provide a dining space which will be used for only a short time each day, it is a common practice to arrange that some part of the teaching or circulation space of a school should be used also for dining.
