asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of pedestrians' crossing attendants in the Metropolitan Police District; how many cases have been notified of motorists ignoring these attendants with their signs when on the crossings; and how many attendants and children when crossing have been struck by vehicles.

On 31st October, 1958, the number of school crossing patrols employed in the Metropolitan Police District was 1,317. In the year ending 31st December, 1957, the patrols notified 108 cases of motorists failing to stop when required to do so; and during the same year 16 patrols and 36 children were involved in accidents with vehicles while on crossings.
