HC Deb 04 December 1958 vol 596 c159W
50. Mr. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware of the complaints made by prisoners that goods purchased in prison canteens and stores cost more than those on sale in shops and stores outside prisons; and whether he will publish in HANSARD a list of goods on sale in prisons at the latest convenient stated date together with the prices charged.

Mr. Renton

No; it is the practice for canteens to charge the normal retail price, which may in some cases vary locally. The work involved in compiling a list of all the many types of goods sold in canteens would not be justified, but if the hon. Member will let me know of any matter on which he wishes further information I will make inquiries and write to him.
