§ 81. Mr. Brockwayasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will ask 110W the housing departments of local authorities for information regarding the number of persons in their areas who received notice to quit under the Rent Act on 6th October, 1958.
§ Mr. H. BrookeLocal authorities are not in a position to provide this information. Even if they were, it would not be very useful. Service of notice to quit has often been followed by agreement on a new tenancy, and even where no agreement is reached the notice cannot be enforced without the tenant having an opportunity of asking the court to postpone its operation.
