Anstruther-Grayasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will give an estimate of the travelling minutes saved by a car of 50 miles-per-hour cruising speed as a result of improvements to the A.1 Great North Road between Edinburgh and London carried out in the last five-year period; and what further saving of time he forecasts as a result of improvements planned for the next five years.
§ Mr. NugentIt is difficult to estimate the saving in journey time because conditions vary, but it is clearly already considerable and will be greater when all the planned improvements have been completed. Travelling conditions will also be safer and easier.
