HC Deb 15 April 1958 vol 586 c7W
68. Captain Kerby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many acres of land in England and Wales, respectively, are owned by his Department; and under what authority this land was acquired.

Mr. Godber

On 1st April my Department held the freehold or long leasehold interest in 186,896 acres, of which 109,188 were in England and 77,708 in Wales. These figures exclude land placed at the disposal of the Forestry Commission. These interests were acquired under various powers, of which the most important numerically are the Forestry Acts and the Agriculture Act, 1947. I am sending detailed particulars to my hon. Friend.
