HC Deb 03 April 1958 vol 585 c183W
68. Colonel Beamish

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many times there have been recounts in Parliamentary elections since 1st January, 1945; what has been the largest, smallest, and average errors disclosed; how often a recount has shown the same result as the previous count; what would be the approximate initial cost of introducing automatic vote counting; and what consideration he has given to this possibility.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I regret that the information asked for in the first three parts of my hon. and gallant Friend's Question is not available. I have not had occasion to consider the feasibility or cost of counting votes by machinery.
