§ Mr. R. A. ButlerFigures showing the number of persons indicted for murder in any one year are not readily available. The number of persons committed for trial on a charge of murder, and the number convicted of murder, in the years 1947 to 1957, are shown in the following table. The figures for 1957 are provisional and subject to correction. The figures shown in column (2) relate to proceedings completed during the year in question and are not necessarily related to the number of persons shown as committed for trial in the same year.
