HC Deb 03 April 1958 vol 585 c195W
Mr. Viant

asked the Minister of Health which were the school communities referred to in the Chief Medical Officer's Annual Report for 1956 where over the last few years monthly rates were low and the introduction of diphtheria led to an outbreak; and what were the immunisation rates in those schools.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The school communities referred to are residential schools for educationally subnormal boys. At one school, when the outbreak took place in 1954, 38 per cent. of the boys had been immunised during the previous five years. At a second school, 41 per cent. had been immunised at some time prior to the outbreak which occurred in 1955.
