§ Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he will consider the sending of an economist to Bechuanaland Protectorate to make a survey of the territory and recommend a development plan.
§ Mr. AlportAs I informed the hon. and learned Member for Brigg (Mr. E. L. Mallalieu) on 27th March a development programme for the Bechuanaland Protectorate for the period 1955–60 is already in existence. Development plans for the period after 1960 will be prepared in sufficient time to ensure continued economic and social progress in the Protectorate.
