HC Deb 03 April 1958 vol 585 c206W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Labour how many workers in the building trade, and its associated trades, in Aberdeen remain unemployed to date; and what steps he is taking to find employment for them.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The following workers whose last employment was in the under-mentioned industries were registered as unemployed at Aberdeen on 17th March, 1958.Stone quarrying and mining—15. Non-metalliferous mining products—90 (including 10 who were temporarily stopped from work on the day of the count). Building—647 (including 243 who were temporarily stopped from work on the day of the count). Electric wiring and contracting—22. Civil engineering contracting—199 (including 8 who were temporarily stopped from work on the day of the count).

My local officers are doing what they can by submitting unemployed workers to such vacancies as are available.

Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Labour if he will specify the other work to which the workers affected by the stoppage of work at the extension of the Station Hotel, Aberdeen, have been allocated; and how many are now engaged on that other work.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I cannot provide this information as the workers concerned have not changed their employer. In any case, information about the labour force of individual employers is confidential.
