Mr. Philip Bell

asked the Minister of Education the total number of Roman Catholic primary and secondary schools receiving building grants which have been erected since 1945, which are in the course of erection, and for which commencement of building has been approved, respectively.

The following Roman Catholic school building projects included in programmes approved by the Minister from 1945 to 1958–59 have qualified, or are likely to qualify for, grant under Sections 102–104 of the Education Act, 1944 (as amended), or under special agreements with local education authorities:

Following is the number of Roman Catholic school building projects known to the Ministry which have not qualified, or are unlikely to qualify, for grant from the Minister or from local education authorities:

Facilities for school meals and medical inspection and playing fields are provided by the local education authority at some schools not qualifying for grant: the cost of others is met wholly or partly from war damage payments.

asked the Minister of Education (1) the average cost per place in the primary and secondary permanent schools erected wholly at public expense in 1955–56;

(2) the average cost per place in the primary and secondary permanent schools erected by Roman Catholic bodies with some public contribution to the cost in 1955–56.
