§ Mr. Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that there has been a continued fall in the world price of food, raw materials, and minerals, and that imports of these items are costing less; and whether, in addition to his request to trade unions to restrict wage demands, he will make a formal appeal to employers, industrialists, and manufacturers to pass on the lower costs of these imports to the British public by reducing the prices of food and manufactured articles.
§ Mr. BirchI am aware that import prices generally have fallen. The Government will continue to make clear to all concerned the need for restraint in prices and costs at home.
