§ Mr. J. Howardasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will take action to alleviate the delay at Portsmouth and Ryde Pier, to which passengers to the Isle of Wight are subject during the summer months, by urging the general public to make greater use of the Southampton route, as suggested at a conference held in Ryde on 15th November, 1957, and attended by representatives of the Isle of Wight County Council, businessmen's and hoteliers' associations, the British Transport Commission, Red Funnel Steamers and other transport users.
§ Mr. WatkinsonThis is a matter for the transport operators to consider with the interests concerned. I am informed by the British Transport Commission that it is prepared to consider sympathetically what it for its part can do to provide additional rail services to feed the Southampton—Cowes route.
