HC Deb 26 November 1957 vol 578 c106W
76. Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade if, in view of the fact that import prices fell from 111 in April to 103 in October, but shop prices increased from 104.5 to 107 in the same period, he will move for the appointment of a select committee to investigate how far the recent take-over bids are creating a monopoly in the distributive trades and, by eliminating competition, are preventing shop prices from falling.

Mr. Erroll

No. The Monopolies Commission is available to undertake inquiries into monopoly conditions.
