HC Deb 21 November 1957 vol 578 cc61-2W
66. Mrs. L. Jeger

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much it would cost to keep the Reading Room of the British Museum open until 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.

Mr. Powell

I am informed that the cost would be approximately £47,000 per annum in each case.

67. Mrs. L. Jeger

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what facilities there are for micro-filming orders to be accepted by the British Museum and whether there is adequate staff and equipment to deal speedily with requests, especially from overseas.

Mr. Powell

The British Museum accepts orders for micro-filming newspapers, printed books and manuscripts in its collections on payment. The relevant staff and equipment are reasonably adequate for all normal demands.
