HC Deb 11 November 1957 vol 577 cc15-6W
Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Health what action has been taken to make voluntary care available for mental defectives in suitable cases; and why the practice of voluntary care in long stay cases that once operated has been discarded in recent years.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The legal position has not been free from doubt, but the practical implications of the Royal Commission's recommendations on this subject are at present being discussed with the hospital authorities and local authority associations.
