HC Deb 11 November 1957 vol 577 c21W
70. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the evidence submitted to him by the hon. Member for Brigg concerning the conditions to which monkeys imported in connection with prophylaxis against poliomyelitis have been subjected, he will call an international conference with a view to providing all such animals with protection against unnecessary cruelty.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The evidence supplied by the hon. Member consisted of a report in a French newspaper relating to monkeys at Berlin airporten route from India to Russia. I do not consider that this calls for action by Her Majesty's Government.
