HC Deb 29 May 1957 vol 571 c29W
61. Mrs. Castle

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the estimated number of Africans who are landless and unemployed in the African Reserves in Kenya.

Mr. Profumo

There are now about 14,000 landless families in the Kikuyu Reserve, of whom all but a few have employment or are engaged on relief work and land resettlement schemes.

No accurate figures are available for the other African areas, but there is nothing to suggest serious unemployment there.
