The main pension schemes in the public service are those for
- Armed Forces.
- Civil Service.
- Fire Service.
- Foreign Service.
- Local Government.
- Police.
- National Health Service.
- Teachers.
Other categories of public servants with separate pension schemes include
- Colonial Governors.
- Judges.
- Judicial Officers.
- Magistrates.
- Royal Irish Constabulary.
In some cases there are separate schemes for widows and dependants.
