§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe civilian population at the end of 1956 was estimated as 529,000. The proportion of Greek Cypriots to Turkish Cypriots in the most recent census (1946) was 4.48 to 1, and Greek and Turkish Cypriots together represented 98 per cent. of the total population. There is no reason to believe that this proportion has altered substantially.
