HL Deb 21 March 1957 vol 202 c728WA
VISCOUNT THURSO

asked Her Majesty's Government to what extent the number of candidates for Regular commissions in the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force have increased since the last pay schedules were announced.

LORD MANCROFT

It is still too early to assess the effect of the new rates of pay on the recruitment of officers for the Services. To date, there has been no increase in the number of applicants for regular commissions in the Navy and the Army; there has however been a sharp rise in the number of applicants for commissions in the R.A.F.

House adjourned at ten minutes past five o'clock.
