HC Deb 20 March 1957 vol 567 cc51-2W
61. Mr. Mathew

asked the Minister of Supply whether he has traced the aircraft from which shell cases fell at Seaton, Devon, on 12th March, injuring a civilian; and what orders have now been given to avoid a recurrence of this dangerous incident.

Mr. W. J. Taylor

I regret the occurrence of this incident. The aircraft was a Hunter operating from the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, carrying out gun firing trials over the Lyme Bay firing range.

A Board of Inquiry has been set up and, pending its findings, my right hon. Friend has given instructions that no further trials shall take place under the conditions prevailing at the time of the incident.
