HC Deb 14 March 1957 vol 566 c201W
70. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to consider exempting from Purchase Tax, subject to the necessary safeguard against resale in this country within a certain period, British motor cars bought by foreign diplomats in Great Britain, in order to encourage them to buy British rather than foreign motor cars, and thus promote our export trade and help the motor industry.

Mr. Powell

An alternative scheme which will meet the point which my hon. Friend has in mind will be brought into effect shortly.
