HC Deb 14 March 1957 vol 566 c213W
96. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance to take steps to alter the name of the National Assistance Board to a name more appropriate to its purpose such as the Supplementary Pensions Office.

Miss Pitt

My right hon. Friend is very doubtful whether any useful purpose would be served by introducing legislation to change the name of the National Assistance Board. In any event, the hon. and learned Gentleman's suggestion would be inappropriate in view of the fact that the Board assists many people other than pensioners.
