HC Deb 14 March 1957 vol 566 cc202-3W
75. Mr. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, since the Bank Rate was only 2 per cent. for the years between 30th June, 1932, and 8th November, 1951, excepting for a few weeks at the beginning of the war in August, 1939, what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government in regard to a reduction of the Bank Rate to something like this low level once conditions allow, and in regard to a low Bank Rate generally when this is attainable; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Birch

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 7th February to the right hon. Member for Huyton (Mr. H. Wilson).
