§ Mr. Owenasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education to make a statement showing the number of transfers from secondary modern 194W schools to technical schools in 1955–56; and whether he is satisfied that sufficient attention is given to specialised courses in secondary modern schools where particular conditions prevail, such as mining, engineering, pottery, and textiles.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe number of transfers is not recorded. My noble Friend is anxious that courses in secondary technical and secondary modern schools should be broadly related to the main activities of the communities they serve, without being narrowly vocational. He is satisfied that many schools are making good progress on these lines.
