HL Deb 12 March 1957 vol 202 cc510-2WA
LORD HANKEY

asked Her Majesty's Government for information on the progress and probable date of publication "of a further summary of the proceedings of the Conference" on the Suez Canal; London, 2nd–24th August, 1956, as was indicated in the Note to the Table of Contents of the White Paper, Egypt No. 1 (1956) [Selected Documents] Comd. 9853.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE EARL OF GOSFORD)

Noble Lords will recall that the Note to the Table of Contents of the White Paper Egypt No. 1 (1956) pointed out that the consent of the Governments concerned was necessary before texts or summaries of the speeches of their representatives could be published. In fact the Soviet Government did not consent to a published summary and it was not therefore possible to publish one. Copies of the verbatim records of the conference were placed in the Printed Paper Office where they are available to noble Lords.

House adjourned at ten minutes before seven o'clock.
