asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will move to appoint a Select Committee to consider the consequences of the high rates of interest now being charged to private industry and the consequence of the credit squeeze to many small firms;

(2) if he will move to appoint a Select Committee to consider the consequences of the high rate of interest now being charged in respect of mortgages on homes.

I do not think such a course would be appropriate.
