§ 75. Mr. de Freitasasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the undertaking given by his predecessor to the hon. Member for Barking (Mr. Hastings) on 25th October, 1956, he will now make a statement on window cleaners and accidents arising from their work.
§ Miss Hornsby-SmithMy right hon. Friend's predecessor explained that under the tentative proposals for legislation on health, welfare and safety in non-industrial employment—arising from the Gowers Committee Report on this subject—there would be power to make regulations promoting the safety of persons employed in a wide range of non-industrial places of work; and he undertook to look into the question of window cleaners in this connection. My right hon. Friend stands by this undertaking but he is not in a position to say when it will be possible to introduce legislation arising from the Gowers Report.
