HC Deb 04 March 1957 vol 566 c7W
53. Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what arrangements are to be made during the next few months with regard to the importation of foreign-grown potatoes; and whether he will give an assurance that all possible steps will be taken this year to ensure the orderly marketing during the late spring months of the home crop.

Mr. Godber

Importation of new potatoes is permitted under open general licence from sterling area and Western European and Mediterranean countries. No arrangements are in force or are contemplated for the importation of main-crop potatoes. In regard to the second part of the Question, the orderly marketing of the home potato crop is a principal function of the Potato Marketing Board.
