HC Deb 04 March 1957 vol 566 cc9-10W
Mr. Thornton

asked the Minister of Health if he will re-examine his suggested apportionment of the proposed increase of 10d. per week in respct of an adult man towards the cost of the National Health Service, as this apportionment of 8½d. for the employee and 1½d. for the employer will mean the reintroduction of halfpennies into the book-keeping and wage packets of thousands of firms and millions of workers.

Mr. Vosper

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I propose that the extra contribution of 10d. for an adult man, announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 19th February, shall be apportioned so as to increase the employer's contribution by 2d. and the employee's contribution by 8d., and that in respect of all other contributors the sums payable shall not include odd halfpennies.
