HC Deb 04 March 1957 vol 566 c22W
Mr. Lucas

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether the work on the West Cromwell Road Extension in Brentford and Chiswick is still keeping pace with the schedule laid down; whether the costs are within the original estimates; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Watkinson

The Answer to the first part of the question is, "Yes." The cost is likely to exceed the 1953 estimate by about £1 million. This is due to the general rise in prices since then; to the need to provide a more elaborate treatment at the various road junctions to cater for the rapidly increasing growth of traffic; and to the fact that the carriageway widths have been increased from 27 ft. to 30 ft.
