HC Deb 04 March 1957 vol 566 c14W
Mr. P. Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for War how much money was spent on Civil Defence by his Department in the financial years 1952–53, 1953–54, 1954–55, 1955–56 and 1956–57, respectively.

Mr. John Hare

The extent to which Civil Defence duties are now carried out by the Army was set out in paragraphs 106–112 of Command 9391, the 1955 Statement on Defence. Separate costing for this one item would entail considerable extra expenditure, which I would find difficult to justify.
