§ Mr. Zilliacusasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the declaration in the Prime Minister's reply to the Prime Minister Bulganin regarding the rights of the German Federal Government in relation to making arrangements 59W for its self defence, what is now the policy of Her Majesty's Government in the matter of rearming Germany with nuclear weapons, and in regard to her joining the Western system of military alliances.
§ Mr. Ian HarveyAs to nuclear weapons I would refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. and learned Friend gave to the hon. Members for Ashfield (Mr. Warbey) and Islington, East (Mr. E. Fletcher) on 17th April. As to the Western Alliance, the Federal Republic has been a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and of Western European Union since May, 1955.
