§ 70. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what grounds Chua Ah Leong, an official of the People's Action Party, is being detained under the public security ordinance in Singapore; and if he will take steps to give this man an open trial with a legal representative.
§ Mr. ProfumoIt is not the practice of the Singapore Government to make public the grounds on which detention is ordered. The Preservation of Public Security Ordinance makes no provision for public trial, but provides for appeal to an appeal tribunal composed of three judges, before which the detainee may be represented by counsel.
