asked the Minister of Defence what the results have been of this year's recruiting campaign for the, three Services; and what has been the trend over the last few years.

The following tables show:

(1) the number of male recruits entering the three Services during the first five months of 1957 and the comparable figures for 1954, 1955 and 1956; and

(2) recruiting figures for the whole of the calender years 1954, 1955 and 1956:—
