§ 16. Mr. Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade, in view of the fact that the Government have declared it to be their policy to end the differential in regard to the embargo on trade with China, what action his Department intends to take to increase trade with that country.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithThe Government have taken action in ending the differential to which the hon. Member refers, and it is for businessmen themselves to follow up the opportunities for trade in non-strategic goods which this action should open to them in the Chinese market. In this they will be effectively supported by the Sino-British Trade Committee, and they can, of course, rely on all possible help from the Board of Trade.
