§ 76. Mr. Royleasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent the Bahamas Government are participating in the development of the port of Grand Bahama; for what purposes the port will be used; and to which companies licences to operate are granted in the free port.
§ Mr. ProfumoThe port is privately financed and administered under agreement with the Bahamas Government which does not participate in the project but which hopes that a number of indirect benefits, including increased avenues of employment for Bahamians, will accrue to the Colony. Promoters of the port project are encouraging industrial organisations to take out licences to operate in the port area. The firms which have so 83W far been formally licensed by the Free Port Authority are: Bahamas Shipyards Ltd., for shipbuilding and repairing; Bahamas Chemicals Ltd., for manufacture of cement; Bahamas Natcon Ltd., for the lumber trade, including manufacture of paper board; and Barclays Bank DCO Ltd.
