HC Deb 29 July 1957 vol 574 c120W
Mr. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food, as representing the Lord President of the Council, how much public money was spent last year in research into artificial insemination in pig breeding.

Mr. Godber

It is not possible to give an accurate figure of the cost last year of research on the artificial insemination of pigs. This subject is being actively investigated at the Unit of Reproductive Physiology and Biochemistry at Cambridge under the auspices of the Agricultural Research Council as a part of a comprehensive programme of research on animal reproduction.

The unit is working in close association with five cattle A.I. centres, at four of which pilot schemes for pig A.I. are being operated.
