Statistics of the total numbers of persons working short time are not available for the areas in question. Such persons are classified as "temporarily stopped" if they register at employment exchanges, and in the following table the numbers registered as uneemployed have been sub-divided to distinguish that category from the numbers wholly unemployed.

The number of persons employed in factories erected since 1945 in North Staffordshire is 5,140. This represents 2.3 per cent. of the present number of insured employees in the area. Information is not available for factories built before 1945.
