§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe number of prosecutions in England and Wales in 1955 for the offences of driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drink or drugs was 3,867. The number of convictions was 3,311; sentences of imprisonment were imposed in 209 cases and fines were imposed in 3,059 cases.
