§ 1. Mr. P. Williamsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action he proposes to take to safeguard British shipping carrying out legitimate trade with China.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydThere has been a considerable decrease during the past two and a half years in the number of attacks on British ships in the China seas, and I do not consider that the present situation calls for any special action. Her Majesty's ships have, of course, standing instructions to protect British ships on their lawful occasions on the high seas.
