HC Deb 04 July 1957 vol 572 cc135-6W
68. Commander Maitland

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware that the present restrictions placed on credit required by river boards to carry out necessary drainage work is making it impossible for them to carry out their duties effectively and economically; and what action he is taking.

Mr. Godber

My right hon. Friend is fully aware that the restrictions on borrowing applied to river boards, in common with other local authorities, have resulted in the deferment of a number of desirable drainage schemes for the benefit of agriculture, and this matter is being most carefully considered at the present time.
