§ Mr. Bennasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will initiate discussions with the French Government about the possibility of immigration into Madagascar to relieve overpopulation in Mauritius.
§ Mr. Ian HarveyThis possibility has been under examination by my right110W hon. and learned Friend's Department for some time. The matter may now also concern the Government Council of Madagascar which was elected last month under the new French provisions for local autonomy. I shall be glad to keep the hon. Member informed of developments.
