§ Mr. Bennasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the number of primary and secondary schools in Somaliland; what is the number of children attending school; and what provision is made for technical and higher education in the territory.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydSeventeen elementary, six intermediate schools, and one secondary school cater for 1,190, 520 and 63 pupils respectively. A further seven elementary and three intermediate schools will be opened this year to provide for 210 and 90 pupils respectively. There is one trades school, providing technical education for 78 pupils; and one vocational training centre with 41 trainees. There is no provision within the Protectorate for education beyond secondary school standard; this is provided by means of scholarships to suitable pupils to study in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
