§ Mr. Ian HarveyBahrain has never been a part of Her Majesty's Dominions, and its status remains that of an independent, protected State. His Highness the Ruler of Bahrain has treaty relations with Her Majesty's Government which date to the early nineteenth century. The most important of the treaties are dated 1880 and 1892. By usage and agreement, cases concerning certain classes of persons are heard in Her Majesty's courts. The law which is applied in these courts is prescribed by Orders-in-Council and Queen's Regulations made thereunder. Jurisdiction and legislative powers over all other persons are vested in the Ruler.
