§ Mr. Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now give an estimate of the total cost, both direct and indirect, of the British Government's armed intervention in Egypt; and by how much the standard rate of Income Tax could be reduced by the application of an equivalent total sum for that purpose.
§ Mr. BirchI estimate the direct cost at £35 to £40 million. It is not possible to estimate indirect cost.
