HC Deb 30 January 1957 vol 563 cc192-3W
Captain Kerby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware that packing stations are not able to fulfil their obligation to collect eggs at least once a week as a result of the petrol shortage; and whether he will lift the embargo on farmers selling eggs direct to shops in order to allow housewives to obtain British eggs that are as fresh as the Danish eggs.

Mr. Amory

My information is that packers generally are maintaining weekly collection of eggs with the co-operation of producers some of whom are arranging to take their eggs to central collecting points. I am maintaining a close watch on the frequency of collections and I am not satisfied that any relaxation of the provisions of the Eggs Order is required.

If my hon. and gallant Friend cares to let me know of any individual producers whose eggs are being collected at fortnightly intervals, I will do my best to see that more satisfactory arrangements are made.
